Trail running

The White Ring - The Trailchallenge leads trail runners, mountain runners and relay teams along the legendary ski track at the Arlberg from Lech via Zug and Zürs back to Lech.

The Trailchallenge takes place for the thrid time in August 2021 and is a highlight in the Lecher Alpine Summer. The legendary White Ring - The ski round is mastered on foot in the opposite direction. Experienced trail runners master the Great Hero Championship alone or in teams of three. For hobby runners there is the small hero classification, which leads back to Lech along the Lechweg after the catering station in Zug.

Lech Zürs is an absolute paradise for trail runners. The mountain air and numerous marked routes make runners' hearts beat faster. There are the right routes for every level of runner. From almost flat runs along the Lechweg or on the high plateaus to demanding physical and technical summit runs. In Lech every trail runner finds ideal training conditions. Several independent studies have shown that the altitude of Lech Zürs am Arlberg has a positive effect on the health and effectiveness of training.

Directions

The competition starts in the finish area of the legendary White Ring - The race and leads first in the direction of Oberlech. After the first steep meters over meadows it goes then somewhat more flatly to mountain station of the Oberlech gondola. Then we continue in the direction of Kriegerhorn past the gypsum holes and the Kriegeralpe. The route then descends steeply to Zug, where the paths of the Great Hero Championship and the Small Hero Championship separate at the refreshment station. Next follows one of the key passages, the ascent up to the Madloch. While this ski run is already a challenge in winter, the ascent in summer is also a special challenge for trail runners. The narrow path leads very steeply uphill in places and is technically not to be underestimated. At the Madlochjoch the second of three big climbs is mastered, in the following section it goes down to the Zürsersee and further down to Zürs. Again and again, one looks to the mountain station of the Rüfikopfbahn, which is the next to be reached. Even though this ascent is less steep than the previous ones, its length should not be underestimated. At the Rüfikopf the ascents are mastered now it goes down to Lech. Here again full concentration is required on the narrow way, which leads over serpentines down to Lech. The finish is then again in the starting area, where the audience celebrates this special achievement frenetically!
